Bayh-bye election?

So it looks like it's Evan Bayh as Obama's running mate--unless this is the biggest bluff so far.

I'm not sold on Evan Bayh.  He just doesn't provide the zing Obama needs right now.  With that little US map icon turning yellow on Pollster.com, it's time to throw a big caution flag out there on Obama's campaign.

Why mention tire gauges?  Leave that to the Shell Answer man.  People don't like to preached at.  It totally undercut what was an excellent response to the McCain energy offensive.  I know Bayh is actually more progressive than people think, but he is dull.  And will he swing Indiana?  I doubt it right now.  Indiana hasn't been polled in nearly six weeks.  This election will come down to MI, CO, OH and VA.

I;m not sold on Tim Kaine either; my preference if it isn't Hillary is Biden, Clark or Schweitzer.  I'm afraid with Bayh, that the downward spiral will continue.

Obama needs to shake up the the dymanics of a race that's rapidly slipping away from him.  Sen Bayh won't change the dynamics.

Hold on a second...

So someone expresses their feeling that they don't like Bayh as Obama's running mate and he is automatically a troll? Is that what this site has become?

For what reasons (none / 0)

would Bayh hurt Obama? He's popular in Indiana and in blue-collar rust belt, and he's a very successful ex-Governor. He's no more moderate than Hillary or even Biden, or hell even Schweitzer.

Bayh has both inside DC and outside DC experience, but his biggest successes came from when he was in Indianapolis.

Re: Bayh-bye election? (none / 0)

Bayh doesn't know how to attack. Obama is just going to keep on getting trashed by the GOP while Team Obama does nothing but call them 'cynical' and 'washington insiders'.  Oooooo...that's going to leave a lasting impression on the public.

by Steve24 on Mon Aug 04, 2008 at 11:13:32 PM EST

Honestly (none / 0)

if Obama was to attack with the same magnitude, the media would spin in as he being an angry black man in the mold of Farrakhan and Sharpton and he'd lose for sure.

An attacking VP Hillary would be categorized as "blood-sucking evil bitch" and a VP Biden attacking would have his words over analyzed and Obama would spend his entire campaign trying to explain Biden's comments.

Honestly, if we can't win by staying above the fray, then we could never have won. We were doomed from day one. If this is what America wants, then let it have it.

They should probably rename Stockholm Syndrome, Ohio Syndrome.

Re: Bayh-bye election? (none / 0)

His selection is the best thing that could happen to Indiana Democrats.  We have a really tough gubernatorial election going on and with Bayh on the top of the ticket it will be much easier to win.

Re: Bayh-bye election? (none / 0)

I'm no fan of Evan Bayh, mainly because of this but if he could really deliver Indiana's 11 electoral college votes McCain would have virtually no path to victory.

I just care about winning this thing, and if that means Bayh on the ticket, so be it I suppose.

Re: Bayh-bye election? (none / 0)

I think that's right.  McCain would have to pick off a state like PA or MI or he'd fall just short of 270.

Bayh...a little too safe... (none / 0)

...and, certainly not a strong pitbull.

If Obama's got a weakness, it's that he doesn't take the gloves off.

Some around here would call noble and the right thing to do.

As far as I'm concerned, we'll be running the risk of sacrificing a victory for piety's sake.

There are too many better choices out there than this.

Not good. We're not "doooooomed." Just underwhelmed.

And, then there's the macrocosmic flip-flop re: change.

Same as it ever was...a rush towards mediocrity, as it were.

Re: Don't Blame BAYH, - Its All About Barack! (none / 0)

Don't blame Bayh if Obama losses. This is ALL ABOUT BARACK OBAMA !

With the absolute worse Economy in over 40 years, the Lowest Republican Party approval rating in the last 4 decades, and the Lowest Poll rating of any U.S. President in history in Republican Bush- THIS IS ALL ABOUT BARACK OBAMA.

With the expected Landslide Democratic victory in the  House & Senate this November, again-THIS IS ALL ABOUT BARACK OBAMA.

Its Always the Top of the Ticket that Wins or goes down in defeat.

George H. Bush did not win because of Dan Quayle.

John Kerry did not lose because of John Edwards.

This is ALL ABOUT BARACK OBAMA.

For the sake of our country, I hope he can somehow win.

Don't blame us. Many of us here did not choose the WEAKEST Democratic Nominee in a decade.

If Kerry, Gore, Hillary or Bill, Edwards or Bayh was running as the nominee, we would be talking Inauguration today.

So far, many if not most of  the 18 Million people who Did Not Vote for Obama in the Democratic primary are rapidly realizing how right they were.

Bayh, Kaine, Sebelius or Clinton CANNOT win it for Obama.

This one is All About Barack Obama!

We told you so! Many times ! But all you cared about his the "feel good" history.

Enjoy the rough ride !

Obama is the weakest (none / 0)

nominee in a decade? You mean since Bill Clinton? Really?

Kerry? Really?

Re: Bayh-bye election? (none / 0)

I'm really curious...would Obama choose someone who voted for the Iraq resolution? He hammered Clinton during the primary for that vote. Is he really going to choose someone who in his opinion, expressed bad judgment?
